ok next problem has reared its head

i got the hub nut off with the washer *the method of chucking it on the ground and using the breaker bar worked a treat (thanks for the offer Wombat)*

but now the plate with the studs wont come off? is there another hiding bolt or something somewhere

Cheers

How very fun.
The flange could be stuck to the splines on the cv joint. Can you slide the cv in/out without the flange moving?
Could also be stuck on grooves worn by the bearings or ceased/rusted together.
You may end up having to remove the whole hub and try some persuasion from the back
