75 clubman should be rod change.
Makes the job easier as the diff housing does not go back so far under the subframe.
Clubman also has more room at the front compared to the round nose - also makes the job easier.

how do you tell the difference??

the room was the only reason i bought the clubman instead of the round nose :lol: and it was a bit cheaper.

Have a look under the car - if there are two rods coming out of the back of the gearbox to the gearchange, then it's a rod change.

What about dropping the engine out underneath?

I have a remote box and will bolt everything on the subframe, lift up the body and lower it down over the engine. Did take engine out by lifting and had all sorts of trouble with the remote foot at the back of the diff catching.

I guess a clubby with rod change will have better clearance to come out by lifting.

i replaced my 1275 on the weekend and it took me less than 2 hours to remove the old unit complete as in with every thing still attched like the alt., rad., starter, carbs and exhaust manifold

then took about 1 hr to swap it all to the other eng and 3 hrs to fit into the car

all i use to lift the power unit is a hyd engine crane and a short bit of old seat belt looped through the rocker shaft

wouldnt it be easier out the top... if i have rod change. ill have a look tonight :)

Look in Doogies (2 S's & a clubman) new thread, it is a guide to removing an engine. The photos in it show a remote change, so you can compare yours to it.

Removing the engine with the subframe is a pain in the arse. Don't even think of going that way.
You end up with an engine sitting in a subframe and half the bolts that you need to undo are inaccessable and you still need to lift the engine out of the frame.
It only takes a little work to get it out via the top. I have done it in 45 minutes on my own without an engine crane. 8)

yep rod change.
youll need a punch to get the pin out of the join,
ive forogotten what size you need but i just bought a superworks pack that had 6 or so punchs

edit: have you got an engine lifting bracket?
