If I was going to do it to an early Mini I would try and pick a contrasting colour from the same year. For Shadow blue I would probably go with Nurburg White. (I wonder what Kara Cream looks like?) as they are both 63 colours.

Good idea 8) I'll look into that. What volume paint for a roof?

Go for Saxon Green for a bit of contrast (then send your left over paint to me for some touch ups ...) .

I always thought white roofs were too commonplace. My 1967 MK1 Cooper S was surf blue with a white roof and I hated it. Painted it all Leyland blue instead then put a white stripe down the side same as the BL Aust works cars had (Young Lions), and fitted 10 x 7 Mawer mags. Anything to make your Mini stand out from the crowd in those days. Now you only have to drive one on the road and it sure stands out ! "Everything else is Just Traffic" as the famous Mini back window sticker says.

But I always quite liked black roofs, especially with red cars and yellow cars (shades of Britax).

My 1970 Mk2 S was all red from the factory including the roof which had a Webasto fitted as an optional extra. In 1974 I painted it all black fitted 10 x 7 spun half Cooper S chrome wheels (ie only one weld - you could get them from Sydney via Pfitzner Engineering) and Group 2 wide f/g arches (same as the works race cars used in 1969). I'm toying with the idea of returning it to red, but leaving the roof black.

I just repainted my 1970 MiniMatic in the original Jet Red (2 pack this time). Why no white roof?
1. Too common- it seems nearly every damn Mini has one these days.
2. It was originally a Cooper thing only, and to me it doesn't look right on others... can you say tryhard?
If I wasn't over the hill I'd maybe bung some stripes over it though.. but nah, the fuzz would follow me then. It's a sleeper. 8)

when i eventually give Alice a new lick of paint im going to get rid of the white roof, I like the look of a one colour mini.
But still the white roof is sometimes the first thing you spot on a mini driving on the road.
Red and black is great too.

When I got my money pit it was BRG and a white roof. All my mates said when they heard I has a classic Cooper S and was gonna re-build it, 'What colour are you gonna paint it, British Racing Green and a white roof?'. Kinda put me off. That's why I did the Red & White. It's been a bare metal job so it was not a light decision. If anything, down the track it could go red all over or a black roof. The red body is a keeper though.
