[essay]

As some of you know I've had my A032R's for a while now. I have also just gotten a set of D93J's on my new mamba's.

When I was doing up the tyres webpage that no one uses because there is a virus there I found that no one could give me a direct comparison between the Dunlops and the Yokohama's. They both seemed sticky from what people were saying but it was hard to quantify because no one had driven on both back-to-back.

I can now say that after driving on the A032R's and then swapping over to the D93J's (same car so no difference there) is that the A032R's are more confidence inspiring.

I approached a corner at what I reckon my A032R's could handle easily (slip just a little or not at all) and I was surprised, I couldn't believe how much more they slipped going around the corner in comparison, it made me feel very uneasy. They eventually doug in and gripped no worries but the slippage wasn't progressive like the A032R's IMHO. The I think I can feel when the yoko's are going to give way easier, and also it isn't such of a "lost all grip" feeling. I can always still feel the tyres working and trying to grip (A032R's).

Don't get me wrong, for a road tyre in 10" the Dunlop is VERY grippy in comparison to a normal road tyre & compared to my A032R's they emit less road noise when travelling.

It'll depend on your budget, the Dunlop is a very good gripping tyre, fairly quiet and great value for money....but that sexy tread pattern and the extra grip on the yoko's will keep me going back to them over the D93J's.

I know the Yoko's are more expensive but I will keep going back to them now that I have experienced how good their grip is first hand.

As I have just gotten the Dunlop's, I'll have to wait and see how they wear. I have a feeling that they will last longer than the Yoko's though just based on grip.

Sorry for the essay but I thought this may interest people.

Cheers, Nick [/essay]

Maybe a really dumb query, but was the comparison apples with apples? I know it was the same corner, but were the tyres up to heat as well?

I drove on the D93J's the same as I drive on the A032R's so I assume they reached a similar temperature as the A032R's. I did not have a thermometer to accurately measure the temperature in the tyres before & after the corner. They were pumped up the same as the A032R's (30psi front, 28psi rear).

Should have also said, I drive the same route to that particular corner and stop at the same traffic lights etc. (It's on my way to the dump cause I just did an oil change on Ash's clubbie for her).

1018, it's OK, I am really not that anal about whether you had a thermometer with you. Thx for the comparison though; for me it was helpful.
Notice I didn't say rectal thermometer? Damn, now I have. Drat & blast.

So are the A048R's the 12" version of the A032R's? or are they just the recent version of the A032R's..... and I am guessing just as hard to find?

It's ok mate. That's as close as I could get with just normal driving. i.e. same route, same driving style, same tyre pressure's, same car etc.

I just thought it would help some people out. I know I was tossing up whether to spend $215/tyre on yoko's compared to $125/tyre on Dunlops (which is when I asked the question and no one had driven on both back to back  ). I'm now happy that I feel that the yoko's have better grip and a sexier tread pattern. Some may disagree with that though and are happy with the D93J's. As I said in my first post, it is my opinion of the tyres. I'm sure I'll get used to the way they behave.

I didn't get any pics but I know swae85 did and I assume Ash did too. The nuts chromed up nice but the chrome is starting to flake off on the corners of the nuts already  The nuts aren't a good fit in any socket, metric or imperial, for some reason :?

I think I may just end up polishing them up (so there's no chrome to chip off). Mine are the Jap copies, so your nuts will probably be a better fit. The chromed wheel nuts on my tasmans are a perfect fit in a socket and I havn't had any problems with the chrome, still look pretty nice.

Yes, they are almost the same tread pattern, just different sizes AFAIK. The A032R and the A048R have been running side by side in the yoko line up for a number of years so I don't think that one is the newer version of the other (either that or one type didn't get phased out with the introduction of the other).

Nope, the yoko's where bloody easy to find, just like any other 10" tyre. Just about any tyre place can get them in. TBH getting the Dunlops was a bloody PITA to get in comparison :x

ohhh..... I'm not going to touch the yokies then, 2500 miles and my Dunlops are on the wear marks

I'm going to go back to Bridgestones, sod all grip, but at least they lasted more than 4 months!

No worries Lachie. If you've never driven on A032R's before you wouldn't be dissapointed in the Dunlops. They are a very good tyre and good value for money but I just think the yoko's are just a little better (if you don't mind the extra noise).

Either way your wheel arches will get sandblasted with either type

I would recommend some fat wheels. The mamba's look so nice on my car 8)

havent tried the A032R's but the Dunlop Type R's D93J's are a Great Tyre both in the wet and dry. The only thing I have found and the reason for thier great ability is they are a soft compound and wear quickly for a daily drive.
I have gone back to A008'a as they are the same price as the D93J's
How long did you have the A032's for and how much millage did you do on them

Because I currently have 3 sets of wheels for my car (each containing different sets of tyres) I havn't really noticed the wear that much. I still have 2.5mm (I think) until I reach the wear indicators. So I have used about 1.25mm of tread depth in probably about 2,000 miles. So I should get about 5,000 - 6,000 miles out of them I reckon, but I don't push them hard all the time I'm driving though, just occasionally.

Either way, I am no where near the wear indicators on any of my 3 sets of tyres

I must be easier on my tyres than you, but I'd say it's because my engine can only just turn those sticky tyres  Simon, you'll have to give me more time to assess how they wear. I plan to leave these on for a while especially because they have a locknut on each wheel. I don't like leaving my Tasman's on because I've spent so much on them. The Mamba's were just cheap wheels cause I like em

I would assume the power of a big bore would wreak more havock on soft tyres than the 30 or so shetlands I have under the bonnet

I can't afford A032Rs. I run A008s because Falkens and Bridgestones just keep spinning on the road with all the HP. 8)
