"its a write off. if air bags have been deployed they usually write them off. 1 air bag can cost 10grand to replace"

Can anyone else comment on this? Sounds a little silly. I have seen plenty of cars with deployed airbags fixed.

It's not the airbag that costs the money of course (I'm sure I've heard a replacement airbag unit costs about $1400 all up, but that was a few years ago), but an accident like that could easily cost $10k to fix, simple maths though, if the car's worth more than about $11-12k, then they'd fix it.

I think sometimes they have rules for not putting cars back on the road after certain types of damage for safety reasons, regardless of the economics of the situation.

obviously the insurnce company is going to work outs whats best for them at approximately 1 k each airbag to get repacket thats about 6 k in a bini + all the damages add up i would be looking at abut 10-12 k of damage on that, as long as the chassi is aligned therefor i doubt it would be a right of, excess say a grand so theres about 13k, car is still worth 30k. insurance still in front .

Yeah, $1000 grand is more like it, but not $10,000 just for the airbag.
