hey all i wanted to know what are peoples opinion of the best brake pads for some 7 1/2 discs, and why: whether good wearing, good with dust great stopping capability, good value for money etc.

Although my mini is a long way off im collecting parts and was going to buy some "greenstuff" as i thought they were the best? wanting peoples advice

Greenstuff pads are nice, as are the blackstuff pads (and you save a few bucks as well). Dustless, nice feel, sqeak free...relatively good value.

I would recommend EBC blackstuff pads. Greenstuff are good, but more suited to spirited driving/track work. Blackstuff pads are aimed a bit more at the road driver. Still much better than standard pads, fairly good with regards to brake dust, and best of all, cost almost half of what Greenstuff pads do.

I've got blackstuffs and I wouldn't call them dustless, but they're nowhere near as bad as the pads I had on the Bini a few years ago...

Oh yeah, I know what you're saying. I suppose I should have said relatively dustless. But compared to the carbon like pads from some new cars...

The Blackstuff pads are good for the street but if you are an enthusiastic driver the Greenstuff pads are just as good but for them to work at thier best need to be "warmed" :D

Yes i use the Greenstuff pads

Funny you say that, I find the blackstuffs I have on my car get better the more you use them -- I find that running around town they don't give their best, because they don't get hot enough. Mind you, that could be the slotted discs and alloy calipers sinking the heat away ;)

i bought some blackstuffs for my mini, and they are rubbish.. at least without a booster, and fade pretty quickly.

i now have carbon metallic pads which are the best, but crap on the street as they dont work well without heat in them, squeal and leave a hell of a mess on your wheels.

!! I'm a little surprised at that comment. I found the pads to be excellent...but I also remember a thread a while back where people found the green pads were a little off as well depending on the batch....

IMHO :P You need to build up your leg muscles if you NEED a booster in a mini! :lol:

Before you went to the carbon metallic motor cycle pads (sintered) did you try the greenstuff pads?
Either that or you had to much power (and or drive it poorly and try to go beyond the laws of physics) and needed a larger friction surface for the brakes to work properly with the way you drive your car (eg 7.5" to 8.4" with 4 spot calipers)

It depends on your driving style which pads will suit you best. Harder pads often lack bit when cold and will take longer to get to operating temp but will be more fade resistant. Softer pads will give you a better performance when cold but will fade quicker if driven hard. If you consistently brake hard into corners or use the car for track work you probably need the harder pads.

ok so in conclusion i should use either black stuff or if i feel like having a splurge use green stuff.

I will check both prices out from a few places and weigh it up then
