Since putting in new carpet and underlay in the van I don't have enough clutch travel anymore.
I have a manual but don't fully understand how I'm supposed to go about it. Any tips people?

You should have a manual to get the correct gaps for the clutch take up point and also the gap for the maximum throw out nut thingy.

You should really check BUT for my De Luxe I set the take up point bolt (the little bolt half way up the arm) that gap to 0.020" (take off the spring off the top of the arm and pull out on the arm until you feel the throwout bearing touch the clutch diaphram). This is the gap you need to adjust (while you are holding it out).

Next, you need a helper to push the clutch in and adjust the gap on the big nut (where the clutch arm actually goes into at around the centre of the clutch cover). You need to set that one to about 0.010" with the clutch pushed in. After you are done, tighten the lock nuts and your clutch should be pretty right. If you still have NO clutch travel I suggest you start looking elsewhere.

This is just a guide because that's usually what I set my clutch to, if you have a manual I know it gives a range of about 0.003" that you can set it to.

But that won't look that great, plus I wouldn't want to cut up brand new carpet. If worse comes to the worse, wind the little screw 1/2 way up the clutch arm out and give the pedal a try. This will adjust the take up point, don't wind it too far otherwise your throwout bearing will be constantly pushing against the diaphram and it'll wear out...quick.

Yes true but there was less than half an inch from the floor to disengage the clutch as it was!!

I didnt say to cut the carpet , just what is probably 12 to 15mm thick underlay under the carpet, you dont even notice it

Does anyone know what the "spring" Paul Gulson sells on ebay comes from?
Looks like some sort of valve spring, but he claims it cures clutch ailments - search for the seller Gulsonpower I think, or clutch spring.

Damian is yours an A+ or std A series clutch assembly? A+ has the short clutch arm and the slave on a plate on an angle and an A series has the slave on top of the extension/flywheel housing.

1st i would check if the piston in the slave is travelling full distance and go from there .....best the remove return spring from the clutch arm to start with. 8)

It's an A+ but I found the half the problem, the pedal was hitting a bolt under the carpet. :oops: so I slightly bent the pedal and removed the underlay and all's good for now. I would like some more travel though so I'll investigate further.
