Borrow your neighbours cold chisel and hammer then.
Keep the cold chisel, he won't want it back afterwards.

Maybe he could listen to your confession after making the car blush with your swearing while trying to remove the bolt

Should we ask why he needs to remove the steering wheel to fit a lowering bracket, or just run with it?

Michealb - have you done that and re-used the steering wheel?

my aprouch would be much like I have used on the lock nuts on my alfa wheels.
Find a Socket that is close but will not fit. Hit with a hammer and progressivley try it. Persuasion is some times the best way

cool.... well does anyone have a spare bolt then?

the bolt shop does....

duelly noted.... take it then it is not a mini specific thing then.... will try cut off 2moro and get another nut :D

The bolt Originally had a hex head on it and it was made to snap of when tight so that removing it would make it harder to steal your car, the nut has to flats on the underside that fits into the steering column bracket .... Bolt Part Number AYG6023 NUT AYG6022
Note, If you are fitting a lowering bracket loosen the U bolts holding the steering rack before you lower the column,

If you are going to grind off the head or the nut it may be worth removing the entire steering column so your car doesn't fill with glowing red sparks, it will be a lot easier once it's out of the car anyway.
Like John said once you have removed the bolt and are about to install the lowering bracket (make sure the column is bolted to the rack properly) loosen the 4 nuts that hold the steering rack on the car (pull the carpets back on the bottom of the firewall and you'll see em) then install the bracket and tighten all the bolts back up.

what john is say regarding to the loosening the U bolts on the Steering rack is a prevention of repair in the future. If this is not done once placing a lowering brakcet on the steeering columb you will eather wear the spline on the steering rack (Stearing rack out job "And you don't want to do this iof you can") or & the bushes in the column itself
Just remember When you lower the angle of the Column it also affects the Rack :x

Sound advice! When my wife was learning to drive and my Mini was our only car I had the lowering bracket bolt done up only finger tight, so we could change the wheel position between drivers (she's 5'11", I'm 5'9"). 6 months or so of this and the splines on the steering rack shaft stripped, leaving me with no steering. Luckily I felt the steering jump a spline while taking a bend on the freeway, and pulled over to see what was what.

Always, always, always loosen the rack U-bolts before adjusting the steering column position.
