Hey Everyone,

I am wanting a full length headliner for my Clubbie van. Anyone any ideas pics how to do this. I have read about fitting an estate framed headliner but dont really know how these are done as have never seen one. Anyone know or have pics?

here's the headlining as per my '65 traveller - note how it sits above a railing which is part of the roof - not what you want, because making and welding in the railing would be difficult... tho the later ones may be different (clubby estate owners??)



there were a couple of vans at MiniShow in Melbourne that had headlinings fitted the same way as a sedan, with it stretched over the side rails of the roof - have a look for some photos

I'm pretty sure the early traveller headlining will fit a later van. Once you pull the old headlining out, the rails along the roof are the same. But you will be left with visible holes where the headliner bows used to insert into the rails, and traveller headlinings are hard to find!

Why did BMC discontinue the early type headliner anyway!?! It gives you more headroom, is ten times easier to remove/replace and easier to clean!

but vans don't have roof rails - the inside of the roof seam is all that's visible

Hey Simon, nice looking headliner, is that a split, or just the frame a bit bent?

Also, did your trav have the swinging sun visors? I spy a small square hole for the clip?

Simon , is your travellers hoodlining an extension of the 850 style where each of the two sections has it's own frame and sort of "pop's" into place ?

Yes Ian, the same front bit as 850's then an extended (Oblong) rear bit.

Fortunately my Countryman has a good headliner too!

Cool , don't suppose you'd have a spare rear frame bit sitting around anywhere so I can match the front I'm using in my van ???

the frame is a bit bent.... but the headlining is no good - it was kinda OK, but became very brittle when I was taking it out and is now a bit worse for wear. They're not ultra expensive from UK, so I'll get a new one along with some other pieces of interior I need

and yes, swinging sunvisors, and I still have them, but need to find some clips - there's a sunvisor thread somewhere from a couple of weeks ago that has links

Hey Guys,

I was thinking about getting a Frame made up to mount along the seams. I was thinking that It could rest on the Metal that sticks out above the seat belt attachments and then also sits on top of the metal tab that sticks out for the hinge assembly.

I have purchased a frame that has been used in a salloon before and will have a play with it to see what I can get to work. I dont really want to weld bolt it in but was thinking I could stick it in using something like adhesive spray.
I am thinking of sound proofing in the back on the roof. Anyone else with a van get that hollow sound when driving or is that just in my head? it sounds like sound reverberates around a bit. Ever been in a van when someone slams the door... Jesus.

I am thinking of ordering a headliner from retro retrim. He said that he could do an estate one easy enough.

For what its worth, I just glued some carpet straight to the roof of my van in order to get the full length headlining. It cuts the sound and is quite easy to do. Also means you don't have to worry about the bows etc.
And Floss, the hollow sound in the back is definitely not in your imagination. I've found that soundproofing mat glued to the sides with carpet over the top pretty much elliminates the hollowness.
I just used generic car carpet from clark rubber and soundproofing from the same. Nice and cheap and doesn't look too bad IMO.
