Is there anything more that I need to know?

I have a 5/16ths bolt which I can cut down, and a 9/16th's ball bearing. The only other thing left to do is to cut the existing spring down 3mm (It should currently be standard length because it currently opens at 60psi - which is standard for a De Luxe  ).

Cheers, Nick

That's all really. Just remember to take the old seat out - the ball bearing replaces that.
Doc also said that the dimensions given on the length of the bolt aren't absolutely critical. The outside end of the spring can be packed with an appropriate washer if need be (will increase pressure if needed).

I've done it a few months back with no issues - did improve consistency of pressure on my car.

Just did it. It made such a difference and it was such an easy mod. I took 3mm off and it now opens around 75psi then drops back to 70psi.

I can't believe how crappily the standard one seats! It's almost like I just gave my motor a rebuild. I can't believe how much better the oil pressure is  I was just about to change to heavier oil too!

Thanks 1310/71 & drmini in aust

I ended up putting 40.93mm in. I still have enough left over (about 40mm) to do Ash's clubby cause it needs something like this more than mine.

Simon, don't forget to take 3mm off the spring when you put it in  I just used a grinder to take bits off slowly at a time. Try to grind it flat, but you can always bend the spring a little bit if you don't grind it totally flat. Just remember to put the ground / cut end of the spring into the hex nut end so that the ball can rest in the factory end

Wombat, it may not be worth the postage of posting them to people (unless they are willing to pay for postage). I picked up one 9/16ths ball bearing today for $1. I'm sure I could've got it cheaper if I was buying in bulk.

lol, the guy at the bearing shop gave it to me and rolled his eyes - not worth the paper the invoice would be printed on...

I thought that was pretty good! I rang another shop and got quoted $3.30 + GST + Freight! For 1 (one) ball bearing  When the dude told me $1 I jumped at it. Although I didn't get a receipt though

I figure it would cost more than they are worth to post but if anyone is desparate ... I found these in my sons garage when he moved in and he was throwing everything from the previous owner out. Probably 12-15 in one of those round tabaco tins - I'll never own enough Minis to use them all :?

Here's some piccy's of the old seat. As can be seen looks like it's had some crap get caught in there before. There is a rub mark on the spring and a wierd looking circular mark on the seat itself :?

Probably has something to do with why I wasn't getting an abundance of highway oil pressure.

Just so you all know that plunger is the VALVE, not the seat.
The `seat' is pressed into the block and that valve seals against it.
Here's a pic of a seat (it's the gizmo on the left)
