Hi all
Fitted new bushes to both lower control arms & after refitting found the forward end of the lower control arm fitting is about 3/32" shy from fully home. Flats lined up & nut torqued up.
Anyone had this problem?
Are the new bushes bigger?
Should I be concerned?

mine have always been the same with the sleeved bushes fitted - I check them occasionally and sometimes get a 1/4 turn out of them. I've accepted it as normal

If you grease them up as as much as you can before you press them in, it helps but they will still overhang somewhat.

They will settle into position in use.

I would keep grease off the rubber, it rots them...
They are supposed to be a live rubber bush when torqued up dry.
Yes there is sometimes daylight there, the assembly length limit is set by the length of the steel sleeves in the rubbers (assuming we are talking about the late 66? on type).

The rubber grease rots them? I've never noticed..?

Well rubber grease won't hurt, but they are not supposed to slip around in the arm.
Lurethane ones do need greasing to slip though (ordinary grease) or they cark it. Can't load them up like rubber, they split.

I always figured the grease helped the installation, and helped to stop water ingressing and rotting the steel. Nothing worse than pulling them apart rusted, especially the inner sleeves...

I did it last week using the rubber inserts with the steel sleeves. I picked these up a little while back from Link. They sure don't look like they're going to go in, but they do get there eventually.
