and in that you risk buying a shonky restored mini and not being able to drive it anyway.

And if I do build my own mini I'm gonna paint every panel a different colour.......

I think provided you have space to do it, it would be a great experience. As others have said you will learn precisely how everything functions, and you will know every little detail. Not like when you buy a car and 6months down the track you wonder why the heater doesnt work etc etc.

Not to mention the feeling of driving around in a mini you built would be even better then one you didnt. If i had the space, i'd be building one right now
