Hey Ollie ... how about that mini on Middleborough Rd in Box Hill?

Seriously though, I'm from Melbourne and don't know about this one, care to share?

Cheers,
BC.

I know where there's an S in a paddock, apparently with a Peter Manton motor in it - I first spotted it 10 years ago - maybe 5 years ago the guy put a small piece of tarp over the back of it to stop people from asking if it's for sale.... dickheads

I know where there is a Cooper S in a backyard. It was a Bathurst car and then a motokhana car. It has not been used in 20 years.

Simon knows which one I am talking about. 8)

I was talking with a guy at Byron bay last weekend (Lance) & he told me he used to live in a rental house in Sydney (told me the address too :-) ) & there was a shed in the back yard that he was instructed not to go into , (locked up etc) but then one day a big storm hit & it haled big balls of rock-ice & smashed a whole heap of the fibro walls in & of course he could help overcome his curiosity so went & had a bo-peep inside the shed,,, "Apparantly" there was an old Bathurst race mini with number 5 on it`s door & another cooper sitting in there with heaps of old rally & race & period mini items all stacked up... He asked the owner if he would sell but answerwas "No-way & make sure you stay out of there" :-) & then went about nailing & boarding it all up again :-)

anyone know anything about this ??? I was told the owners name but it`s a bit like --> Maybe i shouldn`t say just in case he is telling the truth :-)

Mokes are no different-this has been "parked up" for years and is rotting away.Every time I drive past and see it, I think what a waste!

I've got nothing against people keeping an unused car under cover.

There is a BIG difference between storing a car in the open and keeping one in dry storage.

My brothers girlfriend told me that her elderly auntie and uncle have a mini in there backyard and would ask them if they would sell. They said that it's their "second" car and drive it to the shops now and then.
I don't think I know them but I'm damn sure that living in a town of 2500 people I would know if another mini was driving the streets! !
Time to do some ground work. I don't know what kind of mini it is but you have to check these things out

I know are a mk 1 cooper 's' brit import in Ballarat, vic, 850 panelvan, fj holden sedan, 850 mini sitting in the back yard under tarps. I stumbled across them as someone broke in my car the night before and stole my bag with all my uni books, so I did the walk and looked over a few fences. This was back in 1997. When I saw the cooper s, I ran around the front and knocked on the door and made enquires........ The lady was like 60 years old......... I asked if I could have a look and her reply was, "oh we are going to restore that"... I then asked if I could have a look just for run so she let me. Yep the real deal, under a tarp in the back yard. I asked how much she wanted for it. her reply, "$38,000" (1997 mind you). I said, "..................OK"...."How much for the panel van?" Yer reply, "Oh a guy put a deposit on that 5 years ago, we are still waiting for him to come back and pay the rest and get it".
I left and raced into Neville PERDUE, the local BMC mechanic in ballarat (since retired). I started giving him the go around how I know about a cooper S in a back yard and not going to tell him where it is. He stopped looked at me and said, "Its the black british cooper S under the blue tarp behind the white weather board house at number ... and so on.....Ok I though I had one up on him. He then tells me the car has been sitting there for over 20 years and was rooted!! HE told me 20 years ago he made enquires on it, the response was they were going to restore it and the van was sold back then to and they were waiting for the new owner to pick it up. 5 weeks ago I was back in Ballarat and walked past to see if it was still there...yep, so was the 850, fj holden......... I wonder if she will sell it now..............

Matt's Dad is one of those. How many cars does he have kicking around at his place that he's going to restore Matt? Like those Coopers that spent all that time out front of his Morningside shop slowly turning into Alfas.

It's OK to be emotionally attached to a car and not want to sell but it is depressing to prospective buyers.
