Iv'e tried searching but can't find any decent info. Anyone have any links or info or anyhting on doing a round nose conversion on a clubman?
Is it simply a matter of changing the fenders and front bonnet or does the subframe require cutting?

The inner guards need to be chopped if replacing the clubby front end with a round nose front end. If your really keen you can either replace the inner guards with hew round nose inner guards or just fabricate new inner guards to fill the void with aluminium or similar. This isnt my car but another ausminer who has just completed an awesome restoration.

As you can see by the 1st piccy, the clubby front end has been removed.



And a second hand rover front end has been grafted in its place

Or you could buy a round nose and save another mini from being ruined...

I can weld so it shouldn't be too hard. Do you know what type of welding is used?

If I did this would this be need to be inspected or changed with the RTA/Vic Roads

True I could buy a round nose except I am able to get both free and the clubman has front end damage, the round nose is a donor since most of the floor pans and rear is too rusted to save.

You use the same subframe.
If you use a Rover front, you need to put a spacer at the front subframe mount. I think I used 11/16th.
Use the inner gaurds that come with the front.
The top rear most section of the inner gaurd needs a bit of fidling around to make it line up. In the second photo you can just see a small plate I made up to blend the tswo togeather.

If you use a Rover front, go for the Rover style grill. It covers the holes in the front.
You will need a Rover bonnet, as this will line up with the clubman hinges.

mmm welding....you could spot weld, mig weld, tig weld, oxy weld.....depends on what equipment you have access to and if your skilled enough with that equipment.

You missed manual metal arc welding and submerged arc welding...

don`t forget that the bonnet hinges need sorting too,,, they`re in a different position,

I happen to like them more than the roundies... besides we can't all drive grandma cars! I think clubbies are more muscle-car-looking than roundies (not that my mini actually goes over 100kms/h woohoo gotta love that 998 )

anyway. back on topic... good luck with the conversion. If you can take two damaged minis which will probably end up on the scrap heap & turn them into one working mini...go for it!

Not sure if your car is still regoed or not? But cutting off the rad panel iwth its vin number and inner guard will give you all sorts of id problems if the car has to go for vic rego re its id etc etc {even if you want to sell it later}
If you must go this way make sure you keep any parts with the original vin number on as you may be asked by vic roads to go to the vic police stolen car department to prove the car id. Will not cost much but will waste a heap of your time, currently running at about 6 to 8 weeks wait.

Did the clubbies have stampings in the radiator or anywhere else?
I thought they just had a body plate.....easily relocated to the roundy front.

they has the body no stamped into the radiator shroud as well as the firewall and the body id tags
