Ok all....

When Olli is cold, reverse appears to work properly but the 3-4 change is awful when in 'Drive' and when changed manually.

When warm, reverse slips and judders and needs to be feathered, but gear changes in 'Drive' in particular (and on say 2/3rd pedal) are slightly sharp 1-2 and then good for 2-3 and fantastic 3-4...

I get around this when cold by changing manually and with the 3-4 change I lift off completely until I can feel that the gear has engaged and then accelerate (gather momentum?) After a couple of miles I just stick him in 'Drive' and all is well....

Another interesting thing....if I let everything happen in 'Drive' from cold and lift off on the 3-4 change..etc....if I then get then get him to 'kickdown' in that first couple of miles, it seems to reset everything and the gears change better.....

Thoughts??

I had a Morris 1300 auto ($100 I paid for it :P ) and from the day I bought it until I sold it 4 years later, it would `flare' on the 3-4 shift.
I think the original `paper' clutch plates in these automatics were marginal, much later, the clutch plates got kevlar facings...
The reverse problem may just be a band needing adjustment. Or.....

Yep... anything beyond a band adjustment (in car) or forward clutch replacement (engine out of car) means the box must be stripped.

The box was o/hauled about 3yrs ago for $1900....well before I bought it

I gather they would have had to put new plates etc in it then so I hope it is just a band adjustment.....

I'll have a look at what the problem solver in the late 1100 and 1100 'S' workshop manual says.....and then hold my breath

Hi Chris

we had dinner with Todd Miller (name droppers) while we were in California - he's got some very interesting thoughts on the clutch facing which as the good Doc says are paper thin ex factory

I'm not sure if you've read his website and info on rebuilding the auto to be more durable (ie better facings) but he's also be worth an email or 3

really nice guy too
