Bon Ami - has worked for me

Thanks Bloke, I think I used that years ago, I will give it a go next.

Doc you will need a mirror, a razor blade and a rolled up $50 dollar note to use it the way Bloke would have

Doc...first try a good go over with a single sided (Safety!) razor blade or two...at least once per year...the extra life you get out of your wipers will amaze you!!

Good Tip Mick

But if theres no rain it doenst matter how good the wipers are

But agreed when it does rain wiper Blades with a good edge are best

Doc I had the same problem on my side glass (left over from years of use and from when some --unt sprayed the insides with paint. Whilst getting a new laminated windscreen (to replace the crap zone toughened one that will take my eye out if shattering into a million pieces apparently) from the old Ralph Moore in Mascot (who has been there for ever and is excellent by the way) he gave me a small quantity of powder (zinc oxide based I believe) saying that that stuff was bloody expensive. Works a threat with a bit of water and a soft rag - removes anything off the glass leaving a smooth clean surface. Might be worth giving him a call to ask what it was (02 9667-1933)

Oh and he has original UK 'triplex' windscreens for the mini in stock in case someone needs it.

Yepp I have used fine grit to remove scratches on the house windows. I have the pitting effect on mine at the moment.

Just a point - the site on faceting says they list Aluminium Oxide. The say they no longer stock it but then in the box below the description gives the price.... :P Also it can be used for more sinister exploits...

Sorry - it is 7am and I am in at work...will retreat to the bleachers.

Hooroo

I'd be tempted by this kit from Frost in the UK although you'd want to ensure the cloudiness was on the surface and not something to do with the laminated inside material.

It's NOT laminated, and whatever it is, is on the outside.
It seems a bit better today, it's been raining...

Oops, missed that in your earlier post. Regardless, scratched screens always let a car down, even if they do pass WoF inspections, so I may invest in one of those kits.

Has anyone had any experience, or knows what a trade description of the magic powder might be? So I can buy the powder locally rather than 100g from the UK?

Because my car had it bad and on the glass that was sprayed on (the paint was cleaned off the glass but the murky staining wouldn't go away) I reckon its some sort of a chemical that is used in paint and lands on glass.
