as you all know...well should anyway im restoring my third mini at present.
Its off to panel beater next week to get new metal put in here and there.
my wife just aksed me the other day about getting it registered once its completed.
as ill be only using it as a weekend car i was woundering what my options are..
can i get cheaper rego for it ...if i only drive it on weekends???
whats these club permits im hearing about??
is there any such thing as a weekend only rego....im in melbourne vic..
just courious if anyone else has something like this on there car.

Well i'm in Brissy but club rego up here (someone correct me if im wrong) means you are allowed to drive it to attend club meetings/runs only. You can drive it a certain amount of kms radius around its registered address for testing and maintenance only

So club rego probably wouldnt be the way to go

I only drive my mini on the weekends, very seldomly through the week. Unfortunately full rego is the only option for me up here in QLD

Yeah, swae has got it right. Club Scheme rego only permits the car to be driven to/on/home from club meetings. So basically this limits you to only driving your car occasionally.

Wasn't there a national scheme coming in sometime this millenium to replace the current club rego, that allows you to drive it wherever, but limited to 5000km a year or something?

Well i have 2 of my mini's on club rego (well one is 1/2 aaron's) at $54 a year for rego & about $120 for isurance, i recommened it greatly!!!!

It works well for people like Doogie and aaron because they are involved in their club.

For someone like me who is not located close enough to a club with scheme that actually interests me, it does not work. I simply can not make it to many of the NSWMCC meetings and events because their too far away to make it worth while.

In Victoria you can take it to any event of any recognised motoring club you are a financial member of or any event any of those clubs are invited to.

My Moke is actually registered through a local club (Western District Car Club) but I can still take it on any events the Vic Mini Club are invited to because I'm a member of both clubs.

Is there a local club (not make specific) that participates in the club plates scheme you can join?

You only have to attend 3 club events per year in a club rego'd vechicle with the NSW mini club, it's not a great effort, for the money saved. Im sure a through a local car club you could club plate your car with them, we have several non minis on our club plate scheme.

Yeah i understand that its not a huge effort for such a good saving, but it would mean driving my car only 10 or so times a year. I would like to be able to take it out for a sunday drive, or after work, whenever i like.

In terms of classic car clubs near me that would allow me to join. There is one, but the only events they really offer are rallies, which i'm not really set up for or particularly interested in.

Overall I think the scheme is great. However it is only suited to certain people with certain cars in certain locations. For the rest of us, full rego is the only real option.

do you get a rego sticker with club rego.
i would have to be prety unlucky to be pulled over by the boys in blue..and if i did get pulled over what would happen...if i said i was just comming back from a club metting??

i guse insurance would be a different matter....but im not sure...
im pretty sure shannons do a insurance method for people whop just drive there cars on the odd accaision??i no they do insurance for people like me who are building projects and the cars arnt mobile...as ive looked at this b4.

be very careful with trying to fool the boys in blue if you get pulled over and youaren't really going to a club event

i say bite the bullet and pay rego, its not that much really when u think about it and it means you will be able to drive the mini whenever you want to & you will have the mini as transport if your daily driver is off the road.

2 can be driven to all advertised club events and any red plate events
e.g. RACV , Mornington show
3 to a recognised repairer or small testing runs
not shopping down pub
cost $107.30 per year
some time in the foreseeable future 90 day log book (don't hold your breath.)
keep receipt for first year
second year get nice printed form ,get this laminated KEEP THIS IN THE CAR.as it is the only proof you get and most of the people in blue/green uniforms don't know.
it is something to keep the confused.
