hey guys im getting ready to paint in the christmas holidays. and its going to be a bare metal job. just wondering if i can take back to bare metal now and cover with a rust protectant which doesnt require a spray gun as i dont have access to equipment untill the christmas holidays.

por 15 is good or etch primer should do the trick also.

I used POR15's metal ready. Just brushed it on and left the car for a few weeks before painting. It leaves a fine coat of Zinc Phosphate (I think it is). Then just before primer I wiped the car down with a damp cloth to remove the residual material. Worked fine for me.

what type of brush did you use was it a foam block type or the average bristly one?

look at www.por15.com.au thats a really good site they even sent me out a free restorers catalouge. really helpful,will tell you everything you need to know.oh and they say a brush is fine or you can spray it to.

yeah time is definitely what you need when your doing bodywork!
i think http://www.rustbullet.com.au has been mentioned too as an alternative to por15, i think its a little cheaper and not affected by UV rays and can be painted straight over (but i would assume youd be priming over it no matter)
