This is the only footage recorded of the Mini-Trac in use when it was trialed by the ANARE at Wilkes base in Antarctica in December 1965 (and quite likely the only footage of it in use anywhere for that matter) . I was very fortunate to be sent a copy of this while researching the history of it which is all in a 4 page article in the next issue of The Mini Experience so make sure your subscriptions are up to date .... I won't be revealing anything about it's construction till the mag comes out but it was truly an amazing vehicle and it performed well in all conditions .

Enjoy :D

Well I figured the Mini-Trac has been misquoted enough over the years that there might as well be enough info on the video to find the source/story wherever it ends up , I'm sure it will appear on just about every mini site in the world at some stage in the next year or two as it circulates ...

Well hurry up and find the photo's of all your wierd and wonderful mini's then Matt , I need a new project now I've finished the Mini-Trac research , the Mini Ambulance looks interesting ....

Seriously though , if anyone has heard of any strange mini's or odd variants find out all you can about them now , the driver of the Mini-Trac in the video and the two men in the brilliant photo's in the article have all passed away now , the rest I spoke to are all in their 70's and 80's but fortunately have sharp memories . The Mini-Trac was very nearly lost as the people involved may have forgotten the details or passed away , even the Antarctic Division had lost the info on them (I must give a huge thank's to the Australian Antarctic Division as well for finding some original photo's and rescanning them at 300 dpi for me and giving permission for them to be used in the article in exchange for a copy of the magazine) . Once a lot of this information is lost then that's it , it's gone ....

Dont know if its been posted before, but National Archives Australia site has a bit of info on the mini with tracks & other mini stuff. Look under morris , mini, bmc , etc. Pictures of production lines. A police mini, and other stuff.

Unfortunately all the archives site has on the Mini-Trac is the black and white photo of it at Wilkes called "mini at Wilkes" . This photo is what started my research actually when it was mentioned over at the moke forum during the ausmini crash in February this year . I had seen it on other sites claimed to be a photoshop and also a Eastern European bodge up for a photo before Timbo vouched for it's existence as he'd seen some photo's in the archives at the AAD . If it wasn't for that it would probably still be an unknown .

The archives site has a lot of good mini stuff though and is a great place to start looking for things .
