I was up in Sydney recently and went to "NOTA" , interesting gentleman to speak too. When I asked him how many cars have been produced, is said over 400. At the time I was picking up a replacement nose cone for John and Ric Scott  . Driving home from Syd , with a freshly done nose cone can make you woozy hehehe, ah the fumes! Still, not as nice as jet fuel!

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Is that the new version though Doogie (The F1 from memory) or the mini based one from the early 70's ?

Full history of the Fang in next issue of TME.

The 2.2lt Toyota-engined car that Chris drives (actually 3lt I think from memory) is the newer and somewhat larger Nota F1.

Yes, Nota has built well over 300 cars since they began in 1952, but there were 127 Mini-engined Fangs built, in three models.

Yes, one Fang (and one Marauder) was built with a P76 engine and Chris said it was a real beaut. Unfortunately, that was in about 1974 and then something happened to P76 production (I'm sure that date is siginificant  ) and Chris was not able to get the P76 engines anymore.

That was when he started playing with various other engines for the Fang, including Toyota, Suzuki and even Mazda turbo power. The Fang (though a slightly modified design) is still available new with the Jap engines.

And yes, they are road registerable.

Like I said, more info in Issue 17 of TME.

Cheers,
Watto.

Actually the P76 engine lived on a bit longer in Australia as a truck motor (the Leyland Terrier) Leyand was just about to switch from imported blocks to locally cast blocks cast by CAC (Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation) when the P76 was canned but somehow they kept making limited numbers of engines with CAC blocks for the trucks till the late 70s.
I don't know where they assembled them though. :?

Back in the day,,, when it all went to sh!t,,, We bought (as in my dads business ReadSpeed) brand new complete P76 power units , meant for all 3 types of usages,,, The Terrier Truck (& i think some busses got them too),,, also the Marine industry got them with all the water cooled manifolds etc ,,, & of course to power the mighty Leyland P76 itself

I only have about 12x alloy V8 engines here,,, i`ve sadly sold a few along the way :-(

I`d dearly love a Fang in a P67 powered Fang :-)

I think I went to the Nota "factory in 1965 or 1966. I think they tuned a set of twin carbies on a Morris Major Elite.

Was it a wooden older style of workshop that backed onto the upper reaches of the Parramatta river - west of the weir. ??? Built cars in twos and threes and did general mechanical work ???

The only one I know of using the P76 V8 was the Leyland Cougar
