Call it what you will but Wood and Picket is releasing a limited run of new classic mini's handbuilt from the "heritage" shells to mark the mini's 50th . Any other car being remade from mostly new components (not sure about the engine) 8 years after construction finished ?

I had heard that a GMH subsidiary (or supplier) had the equipment (stamps and jigs) to make EH holden bodies and LC/LJ bodies should there ever be a significant market demand.

I suppose the are five or six "classic" holdens.

The FJ, EH, Monaro, LC/LJ, Hatchback Torana, VL, and i guess it stops there. No others are uniquely classic.

Downton made some after 2001 and they were priced at 13,995 pounds for the downtown Sport.

The Wood and Pickett will be priced at $62,500 AUD ( approx ) not includeing shipping to Oz ( even if you could bring one in ). The SPI block and head is still made so you could basicallt build a new a+ series. but these will have MPI blocks so not sure. Maybe they bough a bunch of surplus stock and always intended to use them for the " 50 " propeble very likely.

They should have got some Mk 1 shells from Heritage and made them a bit more...exclusive, I mean sports pack arches from Wood and Pickett and what a radical tyre package 6x13 alloys . Their celebrating 50 years of mini with a mini very similar to the last ones made by Rover IMO they should be a tricked up mini that looks like it came from the 60's when mini was at it's peak.

nissan was selling 240z's in the US about 10 years ago but they were buying good cond old ones and rebuilding them (read every nut and bolt replaced) and recompliancing them

i actually think that there would be a high market demand for the mini if they were to produce the old mini with a newer engine type. with rising petrol and the Australian dollar the way it is especially parking these days i think it would be good, but then again i love mine also due to its uniqueness and if everyone was driving them it just wouldn't be the same.

I tend to agree Bill but driving classics is what we do and i`m not sure people would live with or understand the " WIP " state of classic Minis...

That and although they dont seem to rust here to badly, I had 2 Rovers and a 87 Austin Mini Mayfair and they rust SO badly in europe people just would not put up with it. Not at the price they would have to sell them for anyway...

Idea,

Make the classic mini sports version, modern head, 5 gears and paint it properly (!).

sell it for lots (~A$40-50k or ~20k GBP) in low production for desirability and over heads = money
