Because it has the 1071 engine, Disc brakes, booster, and all the S trimmings.

It also has the simplicity of the sliding windows & removable headlining.

MK II Cooper S (69-71) with BLMC factory fitted SPO 16, 26 and 41.

SPO stands for Special Production Order. These 3 SPO's are for vehicles delivered to Police specification.
SPO 16 is Lowered Frame Front Seats
SPO 26 is Competition Disk Brake Pads
SPO 41 covers a range of changes introduced in late 1970 for NSW Police Cooper S (e.g. 1 1/2" SU's, C-AEA 800 camshaft, exhaust, two-speed wipers, reversing lights, one-piece heatshield, modified distributor, handbrake warning light, tachometer).

If anyone knows the whereabouts of a such a car that was put straight into climate controlled secure storage after it came off the production line, is completely original and has less than 50 miles on the clock please let me know.

How could you store one when they went to the police?

That's a hard one! I am gonna admit to being biased but if I look in the garage at my 1964 850 and my 1970 Mk.2 Cooper and I was told that I could only have one, it would be the Cooper. It would be a gut wrench tho. The nana car is special; but with just 29K on the clock I know someone would get a lotta fun out of it whilst I fanged around in the moneypit.

Sorry to the Clubbies. I had 'em years ago but they are just that bit too modern for moi.
