I want some details about this car, I'm not going to buy it.... but I want to talk to anyone who is planning on viewing it - preferably before they look so I can tell them what I want to see

personally I thouhgt it wasn't to bad but I'm no expert, it looked to be in good condition everything except the motor and heater seemed to be there. If I didn't have another one in the pipeline I would bid on it.
Anything in particular you want to know I will try to answer.

Phillip.

So is it the real deal chassis number as stated on ebay seems a bit late for something with no tag or has it been removed

the paint had been sanded back over the number and it appeared to be YG2S4xxx stamped on it . It was stamped upside down from most of the ones i've looked at though, don't know if thats a problem or not. The date on the wiper motor was 8/69 from memory if that helps. It had no tag but it did have two holes there, hard to tell if there was one there once or not at a rough guess I would say it didn't.

thanks Phillip - and for the details in your PM

2 holes in the firewall? the ID plate should be on the crossmember, with 4 holes - the wiper motor is not a sensible way to date a car IMHO

to update people - my MK2 S is a consecutive number to this ebay car - and is the same colour

mine was produced in July '70, and definitely has an ID (ADR) plate - the one on ebay is either a fake, or is missing it's ID plate and the owner is assuming it's a '69 (given the lack of ID plate)

my car number on the radiator shroud has been stamped from the left hand side of the car, so is the right way up when you look over the left hand mudguard

So from what Philip has said on here and via PM to you is the stamping on the radiator panel upside down when viewed from the over the left hand mudguard :?:

Cheers
Steve

confusing isn't it!

on my car, imagine you are standing with your toes touching the passenger side front wheel, if you look down at the radiator shroud, the numbers are the correct way up, reading from left to right

Phillip and I did not discuss the orientation of the numbers on the ebay car

My mate has a `64 850, the numbers on the rad shroud all look legit, right fonts etc, but they are all stamped the opposite way round to normal...
Confusing ain't it.

I`ve seen a std factory brand new cooper "S" (back in the day when i was a hundred years younger) with the numbers on the fire wall / baulk head all stamped upside down

genuine factory brand new from UK motors , only with us for after sales service & there it was---> Upside down :-) true stroy , can ask my dad

:-)

I reckon that fella went to the pub for lunch, & when he came back stamped the first one on upside down & must have thought,,, what the heck ...& stamped the others upside down to match :-)
