My 1970 cooper s mk2 built 7-70 has the 8tr regulator fitted.It's dated 5-70.
So are you guys saying that the 8tr is no longer available and the 4tr
is a substitute
Regards and merry christmas

That is my understanding, yes.
One other thing- I believe the 8TR had a voltage adjustment in back, the 4TR does not.

As I said in another thread be careful buying 4TRs, a Jag XJ6 one looks much the same but pinout is different.
Correct Mini pinout is B+, +, F, -.
The connector is the same for 4TR and 8TR.

Im fairly sure that clubman Gt's had a 8TR's also (dont quote me though) as i think Anton wanted an 8TR but had to settle for a 4TR. (71 models probably early 72) Mine is a late one so it is internally regulated

Yes i came across a lift up handled roundy panel van that had an 8TR.

I repaired mine a few weeks ago. Didn't have to get too crazy with it however...the spade connectors are connected to the internal electronic wizardry by four braided copper leads. These are spot welded to the spade connectors and often corrode or get vibrated off.

To get to them you remove the tow rivets at the back and it will (literally) fall apart in your hands. The voltage regulator components themselves are immersed in silicone, but can be dug out if you need to. Well worth a looky.

Hi Mick - so it was just the corroded connections that was the problerm with your 8TR? How did you test it initially to confirm it wasn't working, and then once repaired? 'Suck it and see' or use some test instruments?

I knew it was going to give me grief, the spades were loose, and small bits of copper fell out the bottom...

Don't throw them out. They can be repaired!

that would be handy, if it had the component values.... it's only a simple circuit.

When I go back to a standard alternator I need to make a new circuit for mine because I blew it up, but until then, no

but if you have a dead one, send it to me
