Minis transfer weight easily under braking, they will get light in the bum just from backing off. You need to be aware of this at all times as they will spin quite easily if you do the wrong thing. (though no where near as bad as an early 911 Porsche)
You can brake in a corner but you will need to steer the car to keep it pointing straight.

People that say "don't brake in corners" just don't live in the real world! I can think of a lot of places where you just have to brake in corners. It is not as if you can run a red light with the excuse "I can't brake in a corner" You have to be able to stop the car at any time.

My advise is to find somewhere open and safe and practice braking and backing off in corners. But find somewhere safe to do it.

well said Mike...I also think people need to practice recovering from understeer with power-on (scary as it is..practice makes perfect)...but in a safe place as you say...not the Princes "Hwy" for example

totaly agree, its a matter of experiance but does come down to the conditions (road surface, weather conditions,Tires, set up of the suspention amd brakes) and your knoledge of your car and your ability.
By the sounds of it your not totaly with your cars abity or your car is not up to you.
I'd get the suspention perfect and then do some motokhana's

Do not practice on the road

I've been driving the car for 5 years (noted only 4-5 months with discs) but I still feel I'm "with my cars abity". I know it gets wobbly under heavy braking I just wanted to know if this is normal (by the sounds of it the answer is YES) I only asked to be on the safe side.

true...... I have practiced recovering from nasty circumstances, and I've also suffered from the lack of practice.

I'd like to think I generally drive to stay out of trouble - last week someone went into a roundabout in front of me, it was just a little roundabout and I was doing a U turn, and I reckon I had a (mini) bonnets length between me and her drivers window - I wasn't going fast, didn't need to brake or toot, but I reckon the dirty look I gave her as she looked out at me would've made her shiver :D

Are the laws of physics different with Hydro?

It is an issue with most cars. It gets worse with front wheel drive cars. It gets diabolical with rear engined cars.

If you know how to drive you can turn it to your advantage. On a fast corner when the car is running wide you lift the throttle and the front may tuck in, if you lift too much or brake it may spin.
There is sometimes a fine line between going quick and looking like an idiot.

Our dry car on Konis is more twitchy and unstable under brakes than my hydro car is. Same S brakes... F&R.
