Get thee to a dyno with an operator that speaks SU and has needles- it's the only proper way really when it's miles out.

vizard makes some suggestions in the big yellow book - assuming this is for your K, and you've put an 1.5" carb on it, with some extractors and a mild cam & a bit of head work, Vizard suggests a Red spring and E3 or #7 needle - it's just a matter of ringing SU Midel and getting them to send some bits. If the carb hasn't been rebuilt, then you're best off getting a rebuild kit, and doing the whole lot - all the gaskets, needle & seat, jet, shaft & butterfly, etc. etc.

but it's guess work unless you have access to at least a colourtune or gas analyser, and then a dyno

edit: here's a link to all of Vizard's suggested 1098 needles in my needle database thingy - http://www.morrismini.com/SUNeedlesV2.aspx?linklist=7;AN;BQ;E3;H6;M1;

the bigger the numbers for each station, the leaner the needle - if it doesn't show a chart, click "show chart" at the top
