Hi all

I have been a member of this forum for over a year and have learnt a lot of mini secrets in that time. The amount of knowledge available on here is incredible! so i thought it was time to tap in and ask a question.

I am the owner of a mk1 s which is waiting for a full restoration. The car was last registered in 1980 and i have owned it for about eight wears. The car has proper ID plate and matching numbers. I have checked all S features and everything lines up perfectly except the vent line tabs in the boot have always worried me.

My car has two holes drilled on the right hand side with two clips fitted and no tabs under the rear parcel shelf. I have recently been reading posts put on by bmacpiper (bmc) and research has shown this to be correct for earlier cars. My car is about feb or march 67- not real early.

As i said earlier every thing lines up with it being a genuine s including fuel pump vent under seat, electric fuel pump wire , brackets ,fittings ,
heater, body numbers and stampings etc etc.

My question is how many cars have this type of clip fitted and when were they used up to? I thought it is probably worth the question as welded tabs always come up on originality checks/questions.

Thanks all
guna

How do you know its a 1967 ?? . 1967 car numbers go from approx car number 1900 in January 1967 through to around car number 3700-3800 , in December 1967 , it seems to be the year that they produced the most . 1965 car numbers approx 501 - 800 . Some of the very early 1965 Cooper S apparently didnt have the tabs spot welded , just the holes and clips ........

I looked over a very early car at Minis At The Mill last year, it didn't have any holes or clips at all - the owner has known the car since new

Hi,
The first cars just had the holes, clips weren't ready in time. Cars up to 1800 (number on id plate) had the clips no tags on the parcel shelf, can not give an exact car number when they went to spotwelded.
Upto 1800 was the latest I've seen but I'm sure there are later cars.
These cars are 66 models.

That engine number build is between Feb and April '67 as you correctly stated.

Does your car have a welded spare tyre anchor in the boot?

Yes the car does have a square shaped pressed steel plate welded in for the spare wheel.

What does this mean and what else did they use?

2 things -

1 -you have the priviledge of being able to bolt your spare to the floor :D
2 -because of the boot board, no doubt the BMC bean-counters figured the anchor was just another unnecessary production cost, hence they deleted it. :(
