something tells me you should take a new water pump for sure.....

i was cruising in my old 850 (back in 1998) and the pump let go for no reason.... got SO hot the block was smokin, and kept running after i took the key out.... so after it cooled, i changed the pump and drove it away like nothing went wrong....

all the coolant pumped out thru the little hole on the underside of the water pump. Not sure if this hole can be blocked off / plugged to temporarily fix it though....

I'd also fit a new 13lb radiator cap, make sure fan belt is OK, & take a spare.
If your gauge is electric, it should have a wire from ign circuit as well as the other 2 you mentioned. Maybe it fell off...

That lil hole on the bottom is a warning hole, when the water starts to leak out of there, its time for a new pump... it starts leaking because the carbon/seal has warn down so far... and it begins pee.....

Thought I might post that... incase someone else is wondering why their water pump is leaking from there!

nothing wrong with buying cheaper parts nowdays. They all have warranty of some sort, so if it stuffs up within 6 months, you just take it back and get a newie ....simple really

I'd take a waterpump as well, last week when we put another engine in my red' 78 , we were just about to lower the engine into the engine bay , when water started coming from "that little hole in the bottom of the waterpump", so my mate who is a mechanic said it was no good so we replaced it before fitting the engine. Tony :D

cept a warranty on a part that failed in the middle of nowhere doesn't help me.. coz i can't get anywhere to change it over :s

about the temp guage thing i just bought a splitfire temperature guage about a month ago, i sold it to my mate, but he's coming along for the ride to melbourne so i'll be able to chuck it on even just for the cruise over and back.

Hey makka is your comma key broken mate? u know the tear drop thing next to the letter M? m is next to n if that helps :P a lot of people use it to create breaks in there sentances so they dont have to read like this non stop therefore creating a whole heap of meaningless words
