Anyone on here using a Kent 266 cam and how does it perform ?

I used to have a cam very similar to a kent 286, and now have an RE13 - which is a lot better. Kent 266 is the tamer version of the 286, so I'd suggest giving GR a call - he's got a road cam that is equivalent, and would be a cheaper proposition, and probably better

266 is a good cam if you want it to pull well from low rpm, eg for gymkhanas, and it's an excellent traffic cam.
It gives away some mid to top end HP compared to an RE13, which is fast becoming everyone's favourite roadburner for fast road work- but 266 is a bit better down low.

<edit> if you want a bit of both, use a 266 with 1.5:1 rockers.

I have a 266 in my 1310 daily motor. I love it.

It has a good idle and a nice rev range with powerband at about 1250 upwards.

I would use a 266 again.

Thanks guys it looks as if I will finish up with a RE13 I am told that it kicks in at about 2,000 rpm I am running maniflow extractors and single 1.5 su on a heated manifold and cooper s rockers hopefully it may start earlier ?

if you are looking for something alittle more powerful i would recomend a kent 276 for street use. it kicks off at around 2200rpm in my old 1100. it had power all the way upto about 6500. i was to scared to push it harder. i loved it

Trust me, and Graham Russell, an RE13 absolutely kills a Kent 276.... all the way up, and further.

I never really rev my engines beyond 5,500 to 6,000 rpm . thanks for the offer of the cam I will see how it goes with the rest of the rebuild .

I have a Kent 286 in my current Cooper S Mk1 and it pulls from around 2500rpm, nice lumpy idle, probably not a daily driver cam. I have heard a lot about the RE13 and may look at trying it when I do my next rebuild. Previous cars (1100 and Cooper S) I have used the 731 and found that in its day it was a great cam, pulled from around 2000rpm to 8000 but at these revs I found the centre main engine bearing had a short life span.

I have used both 266 and 731 and wasn't overly impressed by either. Wade 1760 and 140 on the other hand were great, though the former was a bit much in city driving situations. RE13 is by far the best yet. Anyone konw if there are any new Mini cam profiles likely to be launched anywhere? GRs sucessor cam seems to have evaporated.

I run the RE282, only 4 were made, great cam but as you say it is no more.
However Graham has a few variations on the RE13 now, depending whether it is a smallbore, bigbore, turbo, or you want a little more top end. Speak to him and and tell him what you are using it for.
He also has a fair range of race profiles, but these are too hot for street use and some have a short lifespan (acceptable in a race motor).

big or little bore? if little post me the cam and i will take a stock one down to GR to regind to re13, i'll keep the 266 for use at a later date. no point in grinding away a perfectly good 266.

After fitting a 266 to Scrapper2's new motor, 1342, i can highly recommend it as a good strong fast road cam, it just pulls from nothing, which is perefct for round town and motorkhana's.
The RE13 is probably a great cam, but for what mr woody wants and needs, a 266 will be just fine.
