Does anyone have the template for the mat thingie that goes in the boot to cover the battery/spare tyre? it is the one that extends out to the boot lid when its open (hopefully that explanation is good enough!)

I think i have one, if you buy the new materail from a trim supplier there easily remade, its the same stuff thats used for the firewall blanket.

Have you got the heavy cardboard/board material box thing that goes over the battery itself ? You need one of them more than you need a mat to cover the whole boot .

I got me one of those plastic battery boxes with a lid from Supercrap on special for $12.50 and intend to throw the lid and turn the box upside down and cut to shape - think it will be better than a cardboard one - more durable and stronger.

I have the bracket that attaches to the edge of the battery and is held down by nuts on long screws

what you need is a cover liike this for the battery.


They can be bought new through places like minisport or just make one.

OK , you NEED at the very least the original battery cover that sits on top (sort of a 3 sided box) of the battery or any tools or the jack can short it out and start a fire in the boot . Check with Matt the mini man or anyone else who's wrecked a lot of mini's and see what they have sitting about , I'll check what's here but don't think I have one spare .

thanks guys, I have seen them on the minisport site. I never carried anything in the boot before but my dad bought me a proper mini jack from the Mini King so i thought i should actually put the spare tyre in the boot (tight squeeze!!) and matt (NAV) has lent me the socket bit for my wheel nuts. Now that I have speakers under the rear seat, i dont like carrying things on the back floor so would like to utilise the boot space
I will add a battery cover to my next minisport shopping list

You'll also need a tie down strap for the cover sold separately - and not cheap. I think I'll use a small ocy strap

If you putting a mat in the boot you could get away with putting a piece of heavy rubber over the battery, cut it as wide as the battery box (front to back) and long enough to go down the sides of the battery. Gravity should do the rest. Clark rubber should have something cheap.

jess mate, make a bootboard! much better than a mat. and gives a decent surface for anything you want to put in the boot.

i used a bit of mdf, took some rough measurements and just cut little bits off till it fit. i can get you a photo if you like.
