The original battery cover was looking a little 'tired'

Image

So I bought a cheap plastice battery box from Supercheap ($12.95 on special)

Image

Using the old box as a guide I marked out the shape and cut it out using a dremel - a hacksaw sort of did the job but the box was 'soft' and moved about a lot. Could use a Stanley knife but although it cuts easy it is hard to control and you can overcut easily.

Image

I used the Stanley to trim off the burs and neaten up the curved bits.

The finished job.

very nice! will have to make one myself now!

just a question, why did you cut out a semi-circle hole after where the lead goes through? (In the last pic next to the bolt)

That was on the original and gives room for the end of the J hook of the hold down to stick out and access for the cover strap it clip on the other hole in the metal tab next to the battery compartment

Interesting..
On a shell I just recently aquired, the old battery tray was cut out, and a new annealed one made to suit that style battery box (plastic liner and lid)... Lifty little idea anyway..

I have to do this soon, what kinda set up does a mini use to secure the battery? and also does the cover just push on top of the battery?

Longways with two short J bolts down to the holes on the sides of the box each end
