$30.36 for the tool in my letter box is a cheap option !, Some people must have alot more mechnical ability and patiance than me !,

It's not hard, just a little fiddly. I kick one end onto the cylinder, and using a screwdriver walk the other end into place. That's the beauty of an E clip, no special tools required..but the same could be said of ball joints, and be stuffed if I'm going back to using a pair of hammers now I have the tool!

I can get the circlip on without much trouble but I'm st****d if I can get it on when I fit the paper gasket that goes between the wheel cylinder and backing plate.
Apart from not fitting the paper gasket, which is what I've done for many years, does anybody have a simple trick to get the circlip on with the paper gasket in place?

What is it's role? Anti sqeak? Anti wear? Anti lock?

On thinking about it, I guess to be able to self align to the drum, all the parts need to be able to slide around a little, this includes the slave cylinder turning a little I suppose.

I theeenk its just a packing gasket, seeing the WC tends to wriggle around a bit even with the clip on. :idea:

well after snapping a circlip last week and then reading this thread and another on a UK MG forum, i just got the clip on, and it only took about 5 minutes.
left out the gasket and bent the circlip a little and got it on no worries
