Folks,

I'd like to fit my newly restored car out with a pair of nice (or very nice!) door kick plates. I'm told that it's not simply a matter of a bit of straightening and then polishing, as they are anodised.
John at Mini King says he can arrange for re-anodising, but I'm guessing this is too dear for me. He also says that it's possible to simply remove the anodising and polish, but that signs me up to a lifetime of polishing due to the ever present surface corrosion.
So what options exist to bring them back to their former glory? What have others done?
Anyone got these as NOS? (Yeah, right I hear you say. I say, no such thing as a silly question!?)
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt,

You can buy them brand new. Minispares (UK) have them for around $23 each. They're light as, so I wouldn't have thought that freight would be too much.

Simon,
Aren't these for the 850 (sliding) door?
The 850 door has a very different (larger) plate.
I'm pretty sure the UK suppliers won't do these plates, as they only fit the Australian only wind up door. Am I right?
Cheers
Matt

Removing the anodizing isn't hard, just spray it with oven cleaner and wipe off 10 minutes later. If you want to go the polish route then buy some of this stuff:

You can use ito n your bumper, wheels etc aswell.
If you want to reanodize it won't be two expensive at all and if you do a google search you can learn how to anodize yourself with a battery charger and a few other bits.

I have 2 NOS australian type kickplates that iv had for years andi have never seen another set. I thought about having them remade but the tooling was going to cost a fortune.
