ok so this is strange....i adjust my points to the correct gap and with in five minutes of the car running the lug thing that causes the points to open when it hits the corner of the shaft in the dizzy wears down, there is no burrs on the shaft and have gone over it with light emmry paper and also put a light smear of grease on the shaft but it just keeps on wearing the shaft down in a matter minutes and eventually i run out of adjustment and need new points. can any one tell me what is causing this problem? when the lug on the points wear the gap between the breakers closes and causes my car to back fire and run absolutely shocking. im saying this because my car is over getting tuned up (apparently going to look at it on monday) and i dont want them tohave a go at tuning it and cant fix the problem and then i waste. my money if that makes sense.
thanks a lot....

Is it the same old original dissy for that engine?, if so , have you replaced the dissy with another to see if same thing happens. I' m only guessing but is it possible that the shaft is bent.

Have you tried what Matt suggested and replaced the condensor?
