I know you're meant to paint em on the inside, i'm just worried about tyre rub (cos its gonna be LOW)

Maybe i could make some kind of inner guard for the arches :?

Oh, and also, my rear wheels seem to have alot of toe out, shouldn't it be toe in instead??? Rear toe out is good for drifting, but not good for straight lines, yes??

paint the inside and wait til it dries, then put a coupla pieces of electrical tape over the bits you think might rub.....

my old man did this on a ford sierra body shell once upon a time...it worked pretty well

Yeah electrical tape works well to protect paint.

Toe in is best for front end, lower the suspension as much as you can for best handling and put in extra shims in the suspension dampers so that it the springs are harder.

Use thicker oil in the dampers for harder dampers. For ultimate handling fabricate your own anti roll bars for the front and rear suspension struts. You can buy them but they aren't cheap and all they are is a peice of wire.

Best upgrade for buck is a performance tune pipe for petrol... but for electric it's a new motor...

I dont think i'd like TOE IN on the front of ANY car of mine.... i like my REAL cars to straighten themselves up out of corners, but not too much

Over the years i've learnt to do my own wheel alignments to suit my driving style. After adjustments, i throw the car on a wheel alignment hoist to get a print-out of my final results, and i always get the same result in both camber and toe - NEGATIVE camber, and TOE OUT.

This setup works for me, but may not work for other people...

BTW: I no longer PAY for wheel alignments, cos i trust my own judgment... OH.... and i'm a tight arse too.... 8)

Sorry.... found a thread that needed a revival.....

I took an hour to finally neaten all the edges of my lexan shell with sandpaper this weekend. Its all nice and smooth now, ready for paint....

I remembered that I needed to cut cut holes in the windows to aid the air flow past the motor. So I cut the front one.... yep its good. I stuffed the back one up. Was cutting downwards on the rear window.... when the blade slipped and cut right down to the numberplate. FAAAAAAARK.

Looks like I will need to glue the edges back together. Dammit.

Now I need to ALSO buy some chrome paint to do the grille (cos there is no sticker for it) and maybe also some black for the roof. I already bought the lexan white paint for the body.

Quick question for previous RC car owners... when painting the roof a different colour, how did you stop the overspray?? I dont want to leave sticky residue from masking tape, so what can I do?? (Im painting from the inside)

my r/c car has 2 shells the first is the normal tamiya standard rover shell, the second has a full body kit and comes with a spoiler it looks evil i painted it orange and black like my car! it doesnt scratch the arches even at full turn and its nearly on the bottom stand post! nearly scrapes the ground on the front spoiler too, nice 8) to answer the overspray question, there is a special modeling tape you can get that doesnt leave residue, i use it, on both my r/c shells and plastic models......... brilliant stuff! plus if you paint the shell first u can remove the tape and spray all black under the white, helps with the stone chips etc, just dont spray it straight away let the white cure, i did it with mine, nice half orange half black mini, not grrrr, had to do it all again!!!

I just bought another rc mini last week (number 9 for the mini count, car number 24 in total I think)
If anyone wants a new tamiya mini, $120 will get you one from hong kong, and they come with bearings and ESC.
I'm painting the shell now, I don't think I'll drive it much when finished, It already has 2 full cans on it, with another 3 colours to go, then I have to chrome the grille, and get some bumpers.
I have another Mini shell sitting around and have no idea how it will be painted. Any suggestions welcome.

Just go to ebay and type a search for a "tamiya mini", the cars retail for about US$75-80 with a mechanical SC, and about another $5-10 to get a car with an electronic SC.
I bought my car off ebay user "stellamodels", they include ball bearings for nothing.
The tamiya kits don't usually come with battery, charger or remote, but they can be organised for less than a $100 easy. Paint is usually $10 per colour, either in cans or bottles.
I'm happy to look around for prices and even buy and build a complete car for anyone, for the cost of all the parts.

Hi Guys,
good to see the R/C mini thread up top again!
Harley we might have to chat when I get more financial about one of those hong kong MO3s.
Mine is up on blocks ATM as I lost a king pin at last weeks raceing. 6 MO3s & 2 MO3Ls on the track. Nobody has stock of King pins ATM but should be in buy next race night. Apreciate any tuning tips on steering (but most of my joints are quite worn. (the car too!!)
Realy do need to concider repainting my body as I hate the paint job. But it does stand out!! I will post some pics one day.
Got to go as I need to get a 3yr old out of the bath!!!
Paul

Marconi, repainting a mini is an absolute bastard of a job. I did this to a car I bought off ebay. It was brush painted, and not very well, so I spent 2 days (about 8 hours) getting the paint off. The problem is that the shell gets really scratched and goes foggy depending on how you do it. My car came out ok in the end (second from the left, with the foglamps) after two cans of paint, new stickers and wheels.

Also, for anyone wanting a "Monte Carlo Mini" as seen on the far right, PM me.
(the cars aren't made anymore).

here's my TG-10 petrol mini, goes like stink for the first 1/2 a tank, then runs like crap till I fill the tank up again, and no-one seems to know what do do to fix it, had it a couple of years - paid $170 in Japan, and when we were over again in August last year I got another shell for $38

Image

here's my electric one, it's the first generation of them, I got it in '97

Image

and one of those mini RC ones you see of skylines etc., same size as the ones that you get in a plastic can, but way better

Image

I've got 7 RC minis, ranging from the big petrol one, to a tiny one the size of a matchbox car, pictured next to a berocca tin for size, the lights go on when it's driving :D
