Andrew called me at 1:30, he made it to wollongong. So I went and met him and showed him back to my place.

The car was running ok, but had a slight miss. We took the distributor cap of and there was a build up of moister in there. It was a bit oily, which looked to me as though it was just a mixture of water and grease. We cleaned out the cap and replaced. It improved but was still missing slightly. I then pulled the leads of one at a time. Two of the leads appear to need replacing because as i removed them i got quite a shock. One plug was fouled so I cleaned it up. Dash pot oil was fine. However it still has a very slight miss.

We had some lunch at my place, before we went for a drive to show him around town and the uni. We then met with Dave (leightons brother) who is hosting andrew. This is where I left them.

So he is here safe and sound.

Ryan

If someone has not done it allready I would suggest cleaning the leads, And make sure there is no dirt grease etc on the outside of the dist cap, sometimes the spark can track between leads.

Yeah john, we cleaned the leads and the cap. The leads are looking pretty old, and mismatched. Might be time for a new set I think.

now she is running reall badly. almost seems like she isn't firing on all cylinders. the temp isn't getting up to normal either. i checked the sender and it is clean and dry so should be giving a good reading.

if anyone can help me out in wollongong with also adjusting the tappets please pm sports850 for my number as i don't have the internetz yet.

there is a major clicking kinda noise from the under the rocker cover i believe.

andrew just left, i didnt want to muck around with things too much, but can safely say that it is running rich, put the colourtune on 1&3 and the spark was orange pretty much all of the time. the plug on 3 was fouled, but 1 was alright if anything had signs of running lean :?

anyone else able to help? my way of fixing things is try different things til one works better then the last which isnt the best when the car needs to be used

Did you check the tappet settings? - that is one place I would suggest starting.

When Andrew was at mine, the tappets sounded noisy. Similarly only the one plug was fouled. I don't really have the skills to fix it (I would if it was my own car but I don't like making educated guesses on other peoples property). I told andrew I am happy to pass on the names of a few good mini friendly mechanics in wollongong.

i had a theory.

molly isn't getting up to tempreture and it all started after driving for ages and then stopping for quite a while in brooklyn just outside sydney to fill up with fuel and stretch my legs.
so maybey the thermostat is stuck open..? my mechanic did tighten the nuts before i left becasue water was leaking out of 1 or 2 of them.

now since molly doesn't get up to tempreture this may have lead to one of the spark plugs fowling up, this may also explains here running rich because she isn't getting up to temp. but that may be stretching it.

maybey the spark plugs and mixture are unrelated.

what do people think?

oh and the tappets? i don't know about them. maybe they just loose after the long drive and that is the problem for the mixture and spark plug.
