O.k just a quick one ...

Thinking about doing a Motokhana on the weekend and just wanted to know what tire pressure's people run.. espesially on the back ..

I was thinking put as much in as they can hold making them like rocks with a small contact patch ...

My baby brother says Real low preassure ... but i think that this is going to make the car want to jump about as the tire rolls on the rim ..

Front pressure at 28psi???? Front tires are Yokohama a032r's
Rear tires Brigestones ( cheap things Small 165)

I used to run very high pressures in the rear and fairly low in the front.
22-26 front.
45-50 rear.

Add salt to taste.

the less tread you have on the rear, the better (am guessing you are doing it in a mini?)

Learn how to do it first then worry about tire pressures.

You don't want to lose too much, say 35 psi rear and 20psi front.
Make sure you have a trial run to get the new "feel" of the car.

Only drive to the track with these pressures at your own risk

Have fun - if you don't break some traction on each corner, then you're not even trying

I think the tyres can take a great deal before they go pop. I knew a guy that had a car he used to do burnout comps in and he would put his tyres up to 80psi or so, just so when they did go bang they really made a noise.

All that being said, on the tyre it might say they max recommended pressure if you want to go easy.

yeah go 50psi at the back

I run 40 PSI all round on tarmac, any lower on the front & you risk rolling a tyre off the rim. On dirt i run around 26.

I always have 35 in the front, Whatever i'm doing. I find at lower pressures the tyre runs onto its sidewall turning hard.
For the rear on bitumen khana, Get those 2 bald tyres off the shed roof (sun makes them hard in a year) and go 40 - 45, they will slide good

I took my Clubman out for its first serios skidpan last month (posted a link to short clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcc4vvfmd5Y ) on another thread.

I was running 32 front and rear and found it easy to break the back out on the wet concrete but it was really easy to spin the front drive wheel too much - lost plenty of time making sqeeling noises.

I agree that first thing is to get used to the car and what is possible before worring about 1 or 2 (or 10) psi. I found it more interesting trying to tidy up the lines and deciding what gear to use... 1st is too low, will 2nd have enough power to keep going, do I use the clutch at the corners (no!).

As this was my first I was pretty slow (in fast company), but I will persist.

SO... just get out there, do it and learn for the next time... and the next.. and ....

Is it a unsealed or sealed?

Depending on the type of surface will depend on pressure.
i have found with dry concrete, 35-40psi
but
if it is bitumen(not asphalt) 40-45psi
or ashpalt , 45-50psi

having said this, I have found alot of peeps prefer to run same pressure regardless of surface and adjust to suit. If it is not a regular ride then you are already adjusting, so pick a psi ( 40IMO), make sure both rears tires are the same psi , and go hard
