I'll tag in here as it is the same topic but different job. 99% of my bodywork is pretty sound and I only want to freshen up the paint. Is it easier to do the whole lot at once or mask off say one side at a time and take time and do the job? I could probably get by with a cut and polish if it wasn't for the fact that there will be a couple of new hinges and cover strips and a little bit of repair work to an A panel that will need a coat of paint. I also need to repaint the roof as blue is showing through the white in places. On the subject of roofs - is it best to paint first or last if they are a different colour?

As long as you know the rest of the body is good, you could give it a rub back after the repairs and give the whole lot a repaint.

Do the roof first as said then let it dry fully, mask it off carefully and paint the rest.

However if the rest of the car just needs a cut and polish, maybe do the roof as needed and then get a spray can made up to match your colour and touch up the repairs. Give it a week or so to cure well and then cut back the touch ups along with the rest of the body. If it is a metalic colour just make sure you get a compatible clear coat, the paint supplier can help you with that.

The colour matching that some paint suppliers do now are really good and can even allow for paint fade.

Cheers,

Gig

Cool,

If you had a mini that wasn't rego'd and you wanted to match the paint, how would you do it?

If it means removing a part to take to the painters to match, which part would be the easiest to remove and replace?

Just curious.........

The rear trailing arm covers are usually one of the easier painted things to remove.

Or if that's not big enough, the bonnet's pretty easy too.
