I think the hi-flow is in order, but equally important to make sure your whole cooling system is in shape too eg radiator, fan etc.

Buy a pump with a cast iron impeller, not the cheap S@%! pressed steel type. I have only used std pumps on every motor i have ever built including all my race motors and have never had the need for a "high flow" pump.

Stay away from the ones with bent tin impellers, they are rubbish.
If putting a hi-flow one in a smallbore, check the impeller doesn't foul inside the block...

For the purposes of discussion and leaving the pressed steel impeller type alone, what is the difference between a standard water pump and a "high flow" pump?

High flow impeller is wider, by maybe 1/4".

Yeh made that rookie error last year.... standard pump should be up to the job if the rest of the cooling system is in good nick...
