Does anyone know where I can buy some blasting media (plastic beads or better yet soda grit) either online or in WA?

I need to do some surface rust removal on the sunshine and I don't have a lot of metal left so grinding is probably not an option. Any suggestions for non abrasive rust removal options welcome!

I have been using De-ox gel, made/distributed by the same people that do POR-15.

Its a paste that you brush on and then cover in gladwrap to stop drying out and then 12-24 hrs later go and give a bit of a scrub and wash off with water and hey presto clean shiny metal...
if very heavy pitted surface rust may need a couple of goes. i found that the products such as rust disolver (about 30% sulfuric acid) dont do that great a job if its heavy only good for cleaning metal realy in my opinion

Gets expensive though, $50ish per kg and im on to my 2nd one and may need another one (i had LOTS of rust), makes me think maybe i should have sandblasted, oh well

You can pick up glass beads for blasting at repco, they work well with a high pressure high volume gun, but I reakon around a 200-300 grit aluminium oxide on a lower pressure is the way to go. It has the substance to remove quickly but won't damage like the rocks in sand.

Although if you really want to remove things quickly then buy a bag of sand from the landscape supplier and sift out anything that won't fit through the gun (around 3mm) then let loose

The swimming pool filter sand I bought at the pool shop has written on it " it is illegal to use this product for sand blasting"

You can get soda from Agricultural Supply or Fodder stores, they use it to put in the stock feed.

Because sand has been banned due to inhaling the dust causes silicosis a very nasty and fatal lung disease.

Think open air in the country and full face respirator/dust mask
