Ideally you want something bigger than your house.

My mini has a 6 car garage all to itself.
The other 5 cars live outside.
:D

Size DOES matter. BIG. You need to be able to open the doors and still walk around the car with the engine sitting near it.

To easily work on a car you need about 4 car spaces. So a long 2 car garage is ideal.

I have a garage thats is 5.4m x 4m. It was just big enough to rebuild the Moke.

However and extra couple of metres in length would be handy for storage and a sitting area.

No, 4x5 is too small. You will end up chipping paint etc. To work on a car you need plenty of space to open all the doors etc and still have room to walk around it. 4x5 would possibly be ok if you had nothing else in the shed. BIAM said 5.4x4 was only just big enough for a moke, and they dont even have doors.

Also when planning this shed, include plans for a power supply, an area where you can wash parts, plenty of shelves, tool storage, and room for the bar fridge.

Oh, a man of my own heart.
A good investment for a shed is an old office chair, so allow room for that.

mine is 11.5 by 8.5 not big enough can only fit 3 inside
the rotten swine next door has 14 by 11 &^^%$$#$ just a little jealous.
garage specs are like a womens hand bag "it is inversly proportianal to what has to fit in it"
go as big as you can and it will not be big enough.
but has been said mesure the car with all doors open and give yourself at least a full metre or two.

I managed in a two car garage. It depends on the work you will undertake. A two door garage is adequate once you get all the benches in, but work must be planned. You can't grind on one half of the garage while building a clean engine on the other half.

If you want some decent storage get some racks/shelves hanging from the roof, you can store a lot of awkward parts up their out of the way like glass, seats, chrome work etc etc.
I'm finishing of building my shed and I know it's going to be tight to work on a mini, mine is 4m wide and 8m long. This is it here if your interested http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=50105
I'd suggest a 6m long by 5m wide, if you can make it longer or wider than that you'll have more space for your tools and stuff. If anything try and make it wider.

6Mx6M works for me... but when the Clubby van is built it'll have to fit both Minis in.
Also remember, junk (and machine tools) expand to fill the space available...

i managed to pull the mini apart in a two car garage - one side full of desks, timber, more crap.. but im rebuilding the engine at school in a reasonably sized workshop. and doing bodywork/painting at my uncles with a massive shed about 25m x 15m.

make sure you have room for storage of parts, tools, machinery etc and a good chair
