i'm going to pull my radiator in a few weeks and take it in to the radiator shop.

everyone talks about 'rodding out'? what is this?

also if the radiator shop says mine is not good enough to 'rod out' what size core should i opt for on the recore?

motor is 1275, cam, extractors, single 1 3/4 SU, RC40 and it's got an electric helper fan under the guard, and i live in Adelaide... it's a tad 'warm' here at times!

so do i opt for 2, 3, or 4 core?

at the moment i run a thermostat, would like to keep doing so, i think it's about 74 degrees..

any suggestions welcomed.

cheers.

Rodding out is when you remove the tank and poke a rod up each of the tubes of the radiator to clean them out.

When I took in my last radiator to the local place he said that the gunk was to dry and hard to 'rod' out so he recored it. It was more expensive but not that bad when you conider that you keep the top and bottom tanks and you get a brand new core.
As for the replacement, it was pretty much exactly the same, maybe more fins per inch but still a three core and the same dimensions. I haven't tested it out yet but I expect it'll be a great radiator now.

A recore job is fine if old core has had it.
Beware of buying the cheap 3 core UK rads, they are only 8 fins/inch (Oz ones 16) and very flimsily made. Sides are attached with crappy tiny spotwelds, not rivets. They rip off...
Mine lasted 3 months, it's now hanging on the wall...
They don't cool as well as Oz 3 cores.
