I was talking to my engineer recently and we spoke about many things involving one of my projects but he did say that it is in the best interests to keep the track legal as in no more than 26mm (I think, don't quote me look it up) wider than original. But if the track does exist outside this and it can't be remedied you would need to explain why it needs to be wider and prove that it is still safe and the suspension geometry is not significantly changed.

In my case I am aiming to try and keep it bang on stock but the fronts are going to wider with the Metro hubs I believe but we'll see.

Oh btw I think this Tuesday night at the Hotbricks meeting there'll be an engineer who has approved quite a few Minis now with all sorts of modifications having a general chat to us and hopefully answering questions.
