hose clamps eh

The way I see it is that "original" is nigh on impossible. So there will always be something not quite right. And if it is quite right, then I will bet you your Sports 850 that the "original" did not leave the factory that way when you take into account batch differences in parts, continuous design improvement, relaxed production scheduling methods etc. What is original on car A is just a replacement part on car B.

All parts wear/perish/age especially on 40+ year old 850s. If it runs then it won't have the original fuel in it now will it??? Because you can't even get the correct replacement fuel  Then there is points, plugs etc.

Original "appearance" is a different thing altogether, easier to achieve and a lot less anoraky (is that a word?). What about common period modifications, or ones 10 years after the "original" came off the production line?

I just say have fun with it!

Yeah cars Like Early 850s Mini k Coopers etc should be original!! Clubmans on the other hand should be modified to the max!! As they are as cool as, if not cooler, than roundnoses :P :P <mod edit: MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I love mod powers! <3 Jess>

But in all serious If you have an original unrestored car it should stay that way!! bit like my low millage Clubman. I have so far resisted even adding a cd player to it!!

I like mine as original as "practical", with period mods (says the guy who did a lot of the work on Mutant  ). I've had Deluxe, Matic, "K", Clubman and Rover Minis - all more period original than modified.

But they should all be driven and enjoyed

I have about 12 different personalities when it comes to minis - and I want a car to match each and every one of them

my cooper is just right for me at the moment - I can get anoraky about other cars, then point to mine and say "I've got all the correct bits, but they're on the shelf at home - right now I'm just having fun with it"

I've lost count of the number of people who've come up to me and said "gee it's great to see a car like that really being used"

the way i see it is - mini's have been modified since day one, so there should be no problem with modifying them now. it's just that the modifications have changed over the years, sometimes for better, often for worse.

i'd prefer an original mini over a mini with a full body kit, stereo

but i'd prefer a mk1 with miglia arches and k1100 head and 10*7 mb racing split rims over an original concourse mini.

I was making 850s go faster back in 1963 and I'm still at it.
Only now the motors are BIGGER and the brakes work too.

Originality is fine, but there's enough of em already.
