They do vary a lot.
I drove a rodchange with a KAD one fitted, it was great. Nearly as good as a decent remote. 8)
I drove a remote one with slop in it and a quickshift, it was a real dog... :x

I would fix any slack in the linkage first, the quickshift isn't designed to solve this problem.

Those late A+ rod change boxes have a very wierd H pattern. After having A+ box in the 1275 LS I can understand why the quick shift would be on your list. Getting from 2nd to 3rd seems to be a very long distance in these boxes for some reason.....

I've had a quick shift for 10 years. A KAD quick shift type fitted to my remote gearbox. The difference is the throw between gears is reduced due to the raising of the pivot point at the bottom of the gear lever. The gears don't change any quicker just the distance the gear lever travels between gear shifts. it makes for a more precise gear change.

im lossed... :?
a quick shift i was told makes the distance between gears closer...hence less time from 1st to 2nd etc...= quicker shifting...from 1st to 2nd ...so how come the gears dont change any quicker???
maybe the boys at link automotive dont know what there saying after all :?: :?:
as ijm sure when i bourght mine i was told it would let me shift quicker...and more easy too..why do they call it a quick shift if it dosent let you change any faster / quicker :?: :?:

The speed you can shift at with a synchromesh gearbox is determined by the time it takes the baulk rings to match the gear speeds during the shift.
These shifters should be called SHORTshifts not QUICKshifts.

You will get the same `benefits' by cutting the existing gearlever shorter. and rethreading it for the knob. As I did for my son's Clubby.

Minifreak, it is, if you want to be pedantic, a quicker shift. Because it's a shorter shift. But as Doc, Morris, etc have pointed out, the fact you can move the stick between gears faster (or, moving your arm at the same pace, change gears quicker, given the distance between gears is shorter) does not mean you should. It just makes it easier to beat the synchros in your box, which is the negative aspect of a 'quickshift'... The positive being the (relatively) tighter feel of the action (smaller gates, shorter movements, etc).

Get yourself a good, rebuilt, tight as an asian mother in law (like mine) Remote shift and you won't need a "quickshift".

I am very happy with mine and can shift very quickly. Cannot imagine that it can get any "quicker" than my left foot and the synchros will allow...

Spend the money elsewhere IMO

the quickshift will be easier to push due to its greater leverage.
when you cut the gearstick it shortens the shift also but increases the effort to engage gear

i agree with the others in this thread, gotta fix your gearchange before modding it.

i had a quickshift and i hated it, you lose nearly all of the feel.
