hey i have purchased a hood lining and am thinking of doing it myself but in the back of my mind i'm worried about stuffing it up.i'm not off to a good start as i did not label the rods that go in the roof. so my questions are.
how do you know what order the hood lining rods go in ?
how hard is it to fit the lining and what time frame?
is $120 a good price to get a trimmer to come and fit it?

i dont know about the rods.. i think they are colour coded.. i fitted mine, its a little wrinkley where my sunroof is but if you dont have a sunroof it wouldnt be as hard i would imagine. if someone told me i had to do it again id definately pay 120 bucks for a good job lol..

rod order is based off the colour of the paint you will find on them.
Front to rear:
1 brown
2 yellow
3 yellow
4 yellow (I think, paint all gone except for some flecks ....)
5 orange
6 brown

Hit it with a heat gun or hardy hair drier. the wrinkles will pull out with a little heat. You will be surprised how good it will come out. Don't melt the fabric (although you have to work pretty hard to do so)

thanks for the replys i did read over your thread just before mick its a good description but the only thing that worrys me is the heat gun.

It did worry me as I used a proper industrial heat gun as well. Believe me I was a little nervous to start.

I've shrunk aircraft fabric using a gun as well so had a little for knowlege on how to aproach the new material. it will smoke before it discolours, and that takes a lot of heat to get it to that point. so you can realax a little more.

The trick is to turn the gun on and aproach the wrinkles from a distance of about 30 centimeters, and then as you learn move in as you get used to what happens to the material.

You heat the entire area around the wrinkle and you will note that it will shrink a little as it is heated, and shrink a little more as it cools. If nothing happens, move in a little and do it again. Once you have a distance you are comfortable with you will get the feel for how long you need to put heat into the fabric. Don't be afraid to leave it for a little while to cool, then have another go from another direction. Knowing when to back down is 80 percent of the danger gone. It will cool and shrink as you do something else then you will find it will shrink more easily next time.

Heat the areas at right angles to the direction of the wrinkle (in the direction you would pull it for instance) and as you get better at judging the material you can chase the more difficult ones you weren't able to get rid of completely earlier on. Once you are confident, you will get rid of every wrinkle there is in the fabric with ease. Just gotta trust your instincts when using the heat gun.
