13"s seem to make them look a little raised? or is that an optical illusion

This is/was my car fitted with 13s--->

Image

But it doesn`t look "Tall" does it????????

No,,,,,,,,,,,,, It`s actually lower than a std Cooper "S",,,, BUT!!!!!!!!! That`s because we changed all the control arm pivot points,.,, lifted them up in the subframe & shortened the towers & made special short "Hi-los" ... all in an effort to combat the inherant geometry & ride height problems usually associated with running 13inch

we obviously also cut the guards for clearance

OOOOHHH!!!!!!!!!! Edit---> Just so you all know,,, i definately wouldn`t attempt to do all that sort of work if you havn`t done it before,,,, it`s a rather Major opperation & if you stuff it up & don`t have the geometry spot on,,, then you will end up with a poor handling bucket of puss,,,

This car is "THE BEST" handling 13inch wheeled mini i`ve "EVER" driven!!!!!!!!! Very possitive,,, very predictable,,, very confident,,, Just sh!TLoaDs of work.

:-)

I was looking at group 2 or 5 arches, whichever will cover the wheels and retain the chrome moulding down the side of the car. I am going for a 60s Austin cooper s look but with a few secrets under the skin.

I've just got the group 2 flares off Huddersfield and they just cover my 10 x 5 contessas.. Great fit though and take the chrome strip. By the way, the chrome strip from them is a little ordinary, like the original mini, not the fancy Cooper S one :? Cheap though :P

12 x 5 should be fine, but 12 x 6 will need the group 5... All will need the front guard cut though..have still had to trim the front guards on mine for 10 x 5s to stop the wheels rubbing/fowling.( Car is 'in the weeds low' though  )

Now thats what I am after, just needs the chrome side trim. Looks like 12*5 and group 2 arches will be the way to go. Thanks for the pics NG. I'll have to give miniimports a ring tomorrow.

now i've been told & really put of that the Handling with Deep Dish wheels 12x5 really changes & that my mini wont drive so well?

it is a 1964 mini traveller & is going to be a daily.

he was talking about positive & negative something & the offset & how it mucks about with it all & getting tyres in auz is a no go?

so im really confused..

before i pay for them trying to find out as much info as i can.

hey NG
i was told something similar somewhat recently
the guy told me that several racers or somesuch were switching back to 10" wheels as the 12" ruined the geometry? don't know the techno-gabble for it unfortunately
curious to see what others say!

yes ruined the geometry? was mentioned also.

im only looking to run 12 x5 now deep dish.

it's a wide known fact 13's look sick but are crap house Handling & it train tracks like hell..

but will ''12 x5's'' be the same in deep Dish & muck everything about.

any one... mini guru you out there.. any one gone to 12x5 deep dish & hated them or loved them.

im told 12 x5's are a bit heavy on the low end when coming slow turning from stop etc.
