Would anyone be interested in this?
I'm looking at importing a Rover Mini from Japan within the next 12 months.
Looking to spend around 3k including delivery.
I only need selected panels, interior, fuel tank, steering gear, brakes etc.
This would leave a perfectly sound 1.3i engine and trans(not sure MAN or AUTO) low mileage and everything around it.
I wont need it as a want to transplant a modern motor and trans in. (Possibly nissan micra or something similar).
Does this sound like a good idea?

Probably just as easy to get a front cut and other bits from someone that's already imported it . Check with brickworx to see if Steve still has any left , there are several others bringing them in as well but I'm not sure who . Someone else will be able to advise who else is bringing them in .

hi there the websites that you want to look at are probably yahoo japan,i think if you do a search on ausmini it should come up with a link.For the amount that you have budget for you might be lucky to get a 998 rover with a bit of rust here and there, but in reallity the minis are geting scarce in japan , and the cheap one will give you trouble ,youd be lucky to get an efi 1275 mini in japan in reasonable condition for $3000,add the shipping,the cost of cutting it up , fees and charges this end and it could quite easily cost you $6000, if its front panels you are after we may be able to help you out as we do have a couple of auto frontcuts left at the moment which have very good panels,cheers josh

Yep, probably better (or easier) to buy one that's already here and that someone else has already done the hard yards for you. What you might find is that the asking price for a nice Rover already complianced will scare you off - but in reality that's probably just the owner trying to recover the costs of what they went through to get it on the road, which should give you an indication of the effort and expense involved.

If it's any help (probably not), there are lots of different rules depending on how it's imported and how old it is and which state too.

Sounds like a real pain but I guess (wild speculation alert) you'd have to import the car, get it complied and running road legal before then doing your transplant and then getting it engineered/complied again.

Mine got the rear seatbelts & child seat anchor point fitted and that was about it (as far as i can recall) other than whatever was required at the time to pass pink slip (needed some brakes and stuff fixed) but that would have to have been done anyway.

Mine does not have half of the stuff that people mentioned but mine was a personal import which is probably the best way to bring one in in terms of what you have to do to comply it. Unfortunately for that you have to be living abroad and have owned and run the car overseas for at least 1 year prior to coming over.

How do you plan to import and register a 1.3L (post 1988) mini?

if your going to get an import DONT just buy a motor, source a whole front cut. Youll waste your money buying a motor.

I can't see you getting a whole car in for less than $3000 at the moment.
not in an acceptable condition anyway.
The last car i brought in had $2500 worth of freight and duties... so even if you got given the car it would blow the budget out.
