I have 12 x 5 superlights on my mini.
I don't race it or do any track time, but I can say that it definately handles different to 10's.

I know someone who has raced on 10's and 12's and he did have to change his alignments to race with them, but at one stage he actually preferred fronts with 10's and rear with 12's. I think the bigger sidewalls on the 10's on the front gave better grip with the extra weight over the front wheels. I think this is because the 10's have more give in the side walls, and allow the car to drift better when braking into and driving through corners.
The 12's give you a much more stiffer side wall which doesn't give you the same cornering style on a track.

I drive with my 12's on the street and I love the way they drive, don't think I'd go back to 10's. Its a personal preference thing though and I much prefer the look of 12's...

cheers
Jonesy

yeh cool jonsey.

id say we are talking about daily drivers who in there right mind would race with deep dish rims.. :P

are your's wheels Deep Dish 12's?

cause i think there is a difference in handling compared to normal 12's x 4.5 & 12 x5 deep dish & to do with the offset..

I was looking at group 2 or 5 arches, whichever will cover the wheels and retain the chrome moulding down the side of the car. I am going for a 60s Austin cooper s look but with a few secrets under the skin.

I've just got the group 2 flares off Huddersfield and they just cover my 10 x 5 contessas.. Great fit though and take the chrome strip. By the way, the chrome strip from them is a little ordinary, like the original mini, not the fancy Cooper S one :? Cheap though :P

12 x 5 should be fine, but 12 x 6 will need the group 5... All will need the front guard cut though..have still had to trim the front guards on mine for 10 x 5s to stop the wheels rubbing/fowling.( Car is 'in the weeds low' though  )

how did you find the Handling.

Now thats what I am after, just needs the chrome side trim. Looks like 12*5 and group 2 arches will be the way to go. Thanks for the pics NG. I'll have to give miniimports a ring tomorrow.

it is 12x5's with wood & pickets.

:)

yeah we left the car as it was except we took the 1510cc donk out & fitted a 1330, & yeah the head just needed a clean up & some stem seals, it`s all sweet again, it`s been about 8 years since it had any engine work at all & you know how far he`s been driving it hey? mega distance every day for all those years :-)
