Hi,
Can anyone tell me the best place to get a rover mini in brisbane? Ive convinced my gf to get a mini, and she wants a rover one for a few more creature comforts. Can anyone tell me how reliable/easy to fix the injection models are? I havent had experiece with an injection setup so am a little in the dark. Is it best to stick with carbs?
Or is the whole thing a bad idea?
Cheers,
Joe

Yeah i showed her that one, was happy that it was red and sent a pm. Just wondering how the spi and auto gearbox were. Is it the same box as the australian ones?

If you can find a MPI one then get one of these, much much more reliable than any carb/spi one. Also much smoother and easier to drive. But they will be rare over here though.

Back in the UK ive heard of many people converting spi's back to carbs due to problems with the spi.

most Rovers in aus are spi, because most have come here from Japan - mpi was never available in Japan

(happy to be corrected)

The production line for the Jap spec minis was a little different to the UK ones.
They all had the radiator mounted in the side of the engine compartment because most had AC and the compressor sits at the front of the engine.
On the UK cars after 97 (MPI) the radiator was moved to the front.
For some reason, MPI injection was only ever used on cars with the front radiator.

A conversion is possible if you have the wiring loom and injection manifold from an MPI car, but you also need the 97 onwards block (all the same if manual)

Perhaps the primary reason for the SPI being kept was that the injection manifold was easier to connect to an automatic transmission. MPIs didn't work with autos, none were built.

Mine runs as sweet as........MPI A/C and all the rest.

Starts first time every time and cruises beautifully on the freeway at 105Kph, never misses a beat and is a dream to drive.

But then again, driving a mini has to be fun, its in the genes ( Jeans)

Only problem is the bloody noise coming from the passenger seat.

My SPi has been pretty faultless. Starts everytime, hot or cold . The only probs I have had is loose pipe off the back of the manifold (common problem) which resulted in crap economy and rough idle. (2 minutes to fix and cost less than $5). The other issue I have had... electrics, this is not limited to SPi Rovers cna be pretty much any Italian or British car but to be honest is probably more to do with the previous owner than any specific problem (stray wire rubbing against the aircon shorted out nd the car wouldn't go).

I would say that SPi (based on my experience) is just as reliable, perhaps more so than a carb one. The main reason for reverting from SPi to carb is to gain more horses by dumping the efi and pollution gear.

Good luck in your purchase
